My internal monologue often times doesn't sound like me.
There's a voice in my head (again, who doesn't sound like me) that will be really mean to me. She will sometimes say my intrusive thoughts then tell me to give into them. She also urges me to act impulsively and say things that aren't kind to others.
I have this reoccurring dream that I'm a girl with long black hair falling off of a cliff (I'm an enby with shoulder length light brown hair).
I once had my inner monologue warn me before a hallucination happened.
I still am almost constantly in denial because I'm pretty sure I have amnesia around my plurality. When I do remember what happens, I then second guess my memory and convince myself I'm just being dramatic.
Hello the rare-non anon advice seeker!!!
So you talk about a voice that parrots your intrusive thoughts… well for one, parroting thoughts like these is quite common for some headmates, especially if you’ve heard (or even gotten the impression of) them thrown against you by other people. One pretty good tactic for figuring out if they’re intrusive thoughts or a headmate is that intrusive thoughts typically try to get you convinced that they’re your thoughts, while if a headmate is doing them you might be able to see that they’re not yours much easier.
We’re not as well-versed on hallucinations and stuff, but being warned before you know it’s going to occur probably means something.
And don’t worry about thinking you’re just being dramatic, that’s a common rationalization tactic and when you experience amnesia second-guessing yourself becomes pretty much second nature.
As we always say, we can’t tell you for sure if you’re plural or not, just that these are experiences that plurals experience and that if you decide to welcome the label you will be welcomed in the community.
