The ASP

As a rabid James Bond fan,  I had read all Fleming's books and found John Gardner's continuation series where he armed Bond with the ASP.  

A secret gun with a real caliber?  I was all in.  Of course,  back in those days,  you wouldn't have found me carrying anything less than a .4x caliber,  but that's neither here nor there.  

I hunted high and low for an ASP, and even in those days of the 80's, they couldn't be found in my backwoods area.   As family and Life moved along,  I realized I'd never need the life or death concealability that the ASP provided.  Nor was I likely to be able to afford one if one fell in my lap.

About that time,  I learned about the Smith and Wesson 3913, which had almost all the features I wanted except the see through grips and the gutter snipe sites,  which had proved to be so problematic.   I began my hunt for one that I could get cheap,  because it still wasn't a .4x, and the Miami Shoot out with the FBI and Platts and Maddox had proven that the 9mm wasn't an instant show stopper.

Finally found a 3913, at a price I could live with.   By then,  the Feebs had shown what I instinctively knew deep down,  it's not the arrow,  it's the Indian.  I carried it for a while,  but we eventually standardized on the much higher capacity Glocks, and the little ASP wannabe lies relegated to the top shelf of my safe.   I'm reluctant to sell it,  as some of it's features (the magazine disconnect) are handy if I go visit for a while at a small child containing household.

Anyway,  that's my wannabe secret agent gun carrying story.

Carry advice from Rob Garrett

Rob Garrett, famous holster maker had this to say about upgrading firearms to match today’s conditions:

Gentlemen,

I seriously hope all that can are carrying daily to protect you, your loved ones, and others if needed. These are very unsure times across our great nation. Given the gang dynamics we are seeing in recent confrontations, this is not the time for sentimentality. This is not the time for round guns to be a primary carry!

Your primary should be a high capacity semi-auto with two reloads. If you don’t have one, get one! They aren’t that expensive. You can’t go wrong with a G-19. Let your Roscoe sit in a pocket or an ankle rig as a backup.

Look at honest law abiding people getting pulled from cars or assaulted in parking lots. Look at the video where BLM invaded a Baptist church during the service. If thing become critical, five rounds are not enough to stop 6-10 thugs. And, when they are on top of you, forget a reload!
