#problematic classics

I hate how “classics” usually means white English/French/American/German literature — like that’s the gold standard of reading.

You never know when something will hit you: racism, Islamophobia, queerphobia, exotification.

And yet these books are still treated as neutral, even universal, on school reading lists. As if being hurt by a book and told it’s genius isn’t part of the experience.
