I think a question that's good to ask yourself sometimes when you're trying to recover from tumblr-induced moral OCD and reading into the lore behind 20th century artists who's art you like is, "am I deliberately trying to make myself as uncomfortable as I can with this information because I see it as my moral obligation, or does this information actually genuinely bother me to the point where it means I can no longer engage with that person's art and persona on its own terms?" because the distinction might be subtle, but it IS actually worth it to be able to tell when you do and don't actually care. I think a lot of us are capable of acknowledging someone who's artistic and personal contributions we value did/said something problematic at some points in their life, and then coming to terms with it and being at peace about it. It just kinda feels vaguely immoral to just decide you're actually okay with dialectics when it comes to YFIP-inspired gossip culture, but like... it's not actually a moral thing. it's not about them, not really. it's about your internal peace of mind, and you do actually deserve to sleep at night.
