              Dinah looked down the alleyway a tingle running down her spine. She hadn’t been in Sunnydale long and already she had started her duties in keeping the area watched on behalf of Batman. “You should be more careful walking along at night girl.” A dark voice spoke. Dinah swung round to see a male, he had fangs and his face was distorted into an animal snarl. “You really don’t want to cross me,” Dinah warned the male. She didn’t think that she would have any problems with this person. 

He came closer to her and she stepped back a little. The male struck her and Dinah shifted her weight and an ear splitting shriek left her mouth but it was cut off as the creature grabbed her throat. The male wore a sinister smile and Dinah struggled against him but out of the corner of her darkening vision she could see someone. She didn’t know if it was a creature or human.

“I’m sorry-- I hope you’re not trying to argue with me right now”, a raise of an eyebrow and then a gentle smile spread on her lips. “Because you know how insistent I can be”.

Another word for annoying, persistent or even tenacious, one could say. Tara Maclay will take care of you and you have no saying in this, nu-uh. 

“Will you let me do what I need to do or you wanna listen some more? I can talk all night.”

     Carter scrubbed a hand over his face. “Buffy? What the hell?” He was sure he’d only just fallen asleep, having spent all night working and then getting Jasmine off to school. “Something wrong?”

             "Ah, Buffy." Giles rises from his desk with a smile that is both mechanically pleasant, and falling short of properly reaching his eyes. After all the years they’ve spent as confidants, he should really know that there's little point in dousing any bad news he gives Buffy with sugar first—because she sees right through it and rarely needs the cushioning. Still, just as it is habit for him to know he's wasting his time, habit dictates that he does it anyway.

     “Are... you still tryin’ to do research?” It certainly appeared so, from the mounds of books on all sides of her comfy spot. Spike kept clear of the quarantine zone, suspiciously eyeing the piles of crumpled, used tissues. “You’re sure it’s somethin’ unnatural, not your run-of-the-mill cold? It’s why they call it the ‘common cold’, Slayer.” But he supposed teasing wasn’t all that helpful in her condition. “Anythin’ else you need? Soup, p’haps?”
