“Professor Moody! Did you turn a student into a- did you use transfiguration on a student!?” Professor McGonagall yelled across the courtyard of Hogwarts, quickly walking over.
You watched in shock as she scolded the other professor. You gently picked up the fuzzy white ferret, or Draco, up and wrapped him up in your winter scarf. You and Draco had been in a secret relationship for a long time, for six months. Draco snuggled closer to you as the professor spoke.
Once Moody left, McGonagall turned to you, "Y/N, I suppose you'll look after him while I finish my class?" She asked and you nodded with a smile.
She nodded back before she shooed her student back to their lesson. Once alone, you went to a small bench under a tree and sat down. The bench was cold once you sat down, and you let out a shaky breath. Looking down, you lifted up the fluffy ferret. You giggled as he squirmed around in your hands, making a cute little noise.
"You are so adorable! I wish I could keep you like this." You teased, setting the ferret back down in your lap.
He looked at you with his big grey eyes, he let out a small squeak. You frowned, he sounded pretty sad. You pet him again, trying to comfort him. His tail wagged a bit more. You smiled and held him close to you, not wanting to get rid of him now that he was close to you.
"I'm sorry," You said softly, looking down at him.
"I wish we could tell people, I hate hiding. I don't care what people would think. I love you and that is all that matters" You spoke down to the ferret.
Draco listened to your words, though unable to speak, he understood. He wanted nothing more than to show you off to the entire school. To show them that you were off-limits, but he was scared. There were so many things in the way. One thing being his family and the other your friends. It wasn't fair for him to be afraid when you had already given up so much for him.
It was time to take another step in this relationship. Once he was out of this furry situation, he would show you off to everyone at the school. Draco would hold your hand in the halls, walk you to class, kiss you between classes, and eat with you at lunch even though people would talk. He would take you on dates to Hogsmeade and go to the Yule Ball with you.
This is what he really wanted. This is what you both needed. He loved you. You loved him too. How could he deny your wishes? No one could ever take your place in his heart. The two of you had only been dating for six months, but it felt like ten years. No... It felt like an eternity.
"Hey, L/N, what are you doing with Draco?" Crabbe asked skeptically next to Goyle.
You looked up in surprise, hoping that the two didn't hear your words. "Oh, this is Malfoy? I didn't know." You spoke, looking down at the ferret.
You hated hiding.
"Yeah, well, hand him here. We're taking him to Professor Snape." Goyle spoke and you reluctantly handed the poor Draco ferret over, still wrapped in your scarf.
They left with Draco, leaving you sitting on the bench, now completely alone.
