Honestly, fuck anyone who says proshots are bad for musical sales or whatever.
I’ve been a fan of musical theatre for almost 5 years (April 2015 is when I launched myself in) and you know what got me into it? Phantom of the Opera: 25th Annviersary at Royal Albert Hall.
I saw Wicked on tour before then, and I loved it a lot, but it didn’t get me Started. In the summer before I started high school, I was bored on Netflix. I happened to see Phantom 25th’s description and decided “I’m bored, why not?”
I watched the whole thing, cried at the end, and to date I’ve watched it over 50 times (I stopped counting around 48), and I’ve watched or listened to almost 70 musicals and plays since. So DO NOT say proshots would be damaging to the industry. Proshots are what got me INTO broadway musicals.
