I just thought of something sad that just might become my headcanon. What if Moshimo never said anything about keeping Robotboy secret, but Tommy does anyway because he's scared that if word gets out Robotboy would be taken away from him? Like his dad or the government (aside from Kurt's dad) So Tommy makes out that he is supposed to keep Robotboy a secret to evade suspicion from his friends because he doesn't feel comfortable about sharing this fear yet.

But this is actually such a great headcanon! Now that I think about it, Professor Moshimo never did tell Tommy that he had to keep Ro a secret; just that he just wanted his son to be sent somewhere where he’ll be safe from Dr. Kamikazi and where he’d learn to be a real boy.

I mean, sure Ro was probably kept hush-hush during his creation process as to protect Moshimo’s secrets of how to build a working fighting robot with real emotions, but then he enters him into a televised fighting-robot competition where the whole world basically found out about him.

So why the secrecy from Tommy? And that’s where your brilliant headcanon came into play. Sure Kamikazi and countless other villains attack them on a daily basis in their pursuit of Ro, but the little bot can easily defend himself and his friends from them.

But when it comes to Tommy’s family and the government? Ro can’t just use his weapons to scare them away since A) Tommy’s family is also his and he doesn’t hurt those he considers his family (except Donnie because he’s a jerk) and B) if he uses his weapons on the government, then he’d be labeled a threat and be forcibly taken away from Tommy, who might also get hurt in the process, which he doesn’t want. It’s a real good thing that the agency Kurt’s Father works with refuses to listen to him!

Hopefully this fear diminishes over time or when Ro is forced to reveal himself in order to protect his loved ones.
