The purpose of this class is to teach students how amd WHY society groups people in categories of race, sexuality, class, gender, ability etc. Anybody with interest in social constructions and their REAL consequences will enjoy this class!!! We will unpack social hierarchies and how they operate, they way they shape our self and group identities as well as our interactions with others. We will examine the experiences of people based on the way social structures and people categorize AND value them. We will learn about our differences to remove rash and dangerous judgement and seek understanding among people often pitted against each other maintain social hierarchies We will examine and criticallu analyze what it means to be a "minority group" And I will teach everyone what Intersectionality REALLY means, as opposed to how its been changed in popular discourse to the point where I cant even trace it back to Dr. Kemberlee Crenshaw MUCH OF OUR FEAR AND INTOLERANCE OF THOSE DIFFERENT FROM US IS FED TO US BY THOSE WHO PROFIT FROM KEEPING US SEPARATE...LEARNING ABOUT AND FROM EACH OTHER ALLOWS FOR SOLIDARITY #ProfessorFresh #AppliedSociology #LetsGetFree @merrittcollegeofficial @ousdnews @berkeleycitycollege @collegealameda @laneycollege

The purpose of this class is to trach students hoento critically investigste spcial issues and analyze the social problems associated with them at a macro (structural) and micro (individual) level Students will learn how to review qualitative (interviews) and quantitative (statistics) to REALLY GRASP THE IMPACT OF A SOCIAL PROBLEM THAT THEY CHOOSE They will analyze and critique the way MEDIA shapes issues to the public and the reactions and responses.
