*sends soup with a note that says SURPRISE, BITCH*
Lee blinked at the note. “That’s rude.” He spooned the soup into his mouth with one hand and wrote a note with the other: Thank you, Rude Person. –Lee
Jetlag | a family drabble
Early morning, at the Lawson residence...London, England.
0600 hours
BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.
The incessant blaring of the alarm clock roused Morrigan Linden from her sleep in a bed that she hadn't seen for half a year. She slammed a hand over the top of the digital clock before retreating her arm back under the blanket. A hard body stirred next to her, warm and inviting. Strong arms wrapped around her shoulders, and Morrigan herself pushed herself backwards to spoon against the man known as her husband, Ethan Lawson.
"Mm...five more minutes, baby," he murmured in his half-awakened state. She turned her head to find a smile etched on his face, neither of them wanting to leave their bed. But they'd just returned to start the second half of their jobs for the year.
"I'd say we could sleep in, but considering we took the past two days off to settle in, it's time to go back to work. The hospital needs their star doctor back," she chuckled. She took one of Ethan's hands that was holding her body close to him, and kissed the top of it. "And I've gotta get back to the Ministry. See what's been going on since we've been gone. Kate has to wake up, too. School and all."
Kate was their adopted daughter, for all intents and purposes. Born under unusual means, she was a girl who had issues with adjusting to normal life. Normal, for girls of her age, was going out with friends, talking on the phone till late at night, going out on dates with boys. But in her case, this particular girl was kept under lock and key for nearly her entire life, until a couple of years ago.
Ethan removed his grip on his wife and rolled off his side of the bed. Morrigan sat up and stretched for a moment. E: "I'll wake her, then make breakfast. What do you want?" M: "Hmm...eggs and strawberry pancakes, maybe." E: "That, I'll do."
With that, he placed a kiss on Morrigan's lips and then left the room in his white t-shirt and blue striped pajama bottoms. Morrigan looked down at the covers over her lap and haphazardly splayed over the mattress, mulling over random thoughts of the day before getting out of bed as well.
Down the hall, Ethan opened the door to Kate's room. Not surprised to find her still asleep in this early hour, he went over to her bed and gently shook her awake. "Kate? Kate, hey. It's time to wake up now. You gotta go back to school today, kiddo."
Sleepy blue eyes blinked and focused on her surroundings, as well as the person standing above her. "Dad?" she murmured, followed by inhaling a deep breath and stretching out on the length of the bed for a moment, just as Morrigan did earlier. She rolled over onto her back and stared at the ceiling.
K :"Monday already, huh?"
Ethan chuckled. "Yeah, it is. Get up," he said gently. "I'm making you pancakes and eggs. Sound good?" The young girl nodded. "I'll be there...just give me twenty minutes."
E: "All right. Go take a shower and come down later." K: "Thanks, Dad."

"WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?"
⊗
Lee shielded his eyes with his arms and kicked out of the rubble pile. “Morrigan?”
He waited for a reply. It was too quiet. Sure, he'd been out, but he didn't think she'd leave. It had only been a few minutes by his watch. He rounded another pile of rubble. Morrigan was wandless, leaning against the pile, eyes unseeing.
Lee checked anyway.
He closed her eyes. He stood and started blasting bricks apart with his wand. Another and another and another until he was covered in pale brick dust, until he coughed as the dryness coated his throat, blasted way until the other Order members found him and had to wrench his wand away.
He had no tears. He was dry. Dry and rough and exhausted. When was this war going to end?

Don't you have friends? Who do you talk to at school!?
Classmates. People I'm not really close to but only talk to if we have to do like, a group project together.
You know you can go out with friends, right?
Uh...haha. What friends?
