SB 97 requires providers to prescribe medication that has been proven to be less effective' more costly and causes harmful side effects. The evidence based method currently available is widely used and supported by major medical associations.
SB 97 will not enhance patient safety nor improve the quality of care that women receive. This bill does not promote women's health' but erodes it by restricting access to a safe' legal medical procedure. Texas women should have access to well-researched' safe, and proven medical protocols.
It's outrageous for the Texas Legislature to further threaten Texans access to reproductive health care after dismantling the health care infrastructure for women last session. Please join me in trusting Texas women and their physicians.
Top 5 Problems To Look For AND Report On Election Day
As you make your way to the polls tomorrow, make sure to not only be informed on the issues, but also aware of potential problems you or others might experience. Already during early vote we have seen issues pop-up across the state. Being informed and prepared will help ensure a fair and open election process. That said, millions of Texans are voting without any problems. We just want you to be aware of what to do if any issue should occur.
First, take out your phone right now and put this number in your contacts - 866.OUR.VOTE.
If you have any problems when you vote or witness any of the following, please call the Election Protection Hotline at 866.OUR.VOTE. All reports should include time, precinct, and people involved (voter’s contact information and race), name and race of poll workers, challenger, and contact information of witnesses. You may also contact Juan Carlos Ibarra at 202.361.3858 or via email at [email protected]. His job is to protect your vote.
Here are the Top 5 problems to look for AND report on Election Day:
Any challenges to voter eligibility: citizenship, felony conviction, moved, signature, ID or other.
Poll watchers who are questioning voters. They should not talk to voters.
Voters’ names not being on the rolls.
Voters who believe they are being incorrectly redirected to other polling places.
Any language access issues: lack of bilingual ballots, signs, poll workers, or refusal to permit someone to assist voters in the voting booth.
Also, if you encounter any problems be prepared to use your smart phone to document exactly what is happening and then share that content on your YouTube, Twitter, Instagram or Ustream account by using #VideoTheVote. An organization called Video The Vote, a nonpartisan grassroots organization, will be monitoring and collecting information on problems at U.S. polls across the country on election day. Click here for more information about Video The Vote and how you can get involved on election day.
Again, we don't expect any problems or issues when you vote, but it is always better to be prepared. Your vote matters too much for any person or organization to get in the way of making your voice heard.
Sincerely,
Phillip Martin Progress Texas, Political Director
P.S. Once you've voted, encourage other Texans to do the same. Make just two calls and help get other Texans to vote in this important election.
While we support all 10 amendments, we take issue on three amendments and the reasons why Texans even have to spend time or resource on these amendments. Three of the constitutional amendments – Prop 2, 3, and 6 – only exist because the conservative ideologues running the Texas Legislature continue to be incompetent. Propositions 2 & 3 give Texas the authority to issue more bonds for water needs and student loans, respectively. Proposition 6 will use budget tricks to free up more money for our public schools.
We don’t have to budget like this. We don’t have to increase state debt payments or extend bonding authority, just to make sure kids can go to school and we can drink clean water. These false choices are the results of nearly a decade of conservative leaders in Texas failing to give money to the things that matter. At the same time the Legislature is refusing to close a $1.2 loophole to natural gas companies that are preparing to dirty our water sources, they are asking voters to increase bonding authority to support projects that clean our water. Texans are being held hostage by conservative budget tricks and we have only two options: fund essential programs, or let Texas deteriorate and fail. While conservatives advocate otherwise, we are too proud of our state to plan for failure.
Either our students in public schools are a priority, or they’re not. Either helping those students go to college is a priority, or it’s not. Either making sure those students and their families have clean water to drink is a priority, or it’s not. The conservative state leadership in this state needs to stop passing the buck to Texas voters to do what they are too scared to do: spend more money to improve the quality of life for every Texan.
Regardless if you agree with our position on these issues, please be sure to vote this election season.
