Project 2 Post-Critique Response
Weaknesses: Communication of the ideas in the piece did not come out until people knew the words of each verse. Titles of the verses should have been included. Technical skill involved could have been better - windows used the same pattern, and the emojis looked like “stickers” rather than parts of the windows.
Strengths: After the verses were read aloud people got the idea. I think the two styles chosen worked well together to communicate everything that I wanted to communicate.
Suggestions:
Add thicker black outlines to the details within the emoji themselves. - great suggestion, but I probably won’t have time to actually go back and edit this work later. Maybe after the semester is over
Make unique patterns for each window - also a great suggestion, but see above.
Change the background color to something warmer like red or orange - I somewhat disagree with this one. I specifically avoided colors that would evoke a sense of anger. I don’t want this piece to be a call to arms. I chose sky blue to try to communicate peace, and that maybe people should stop arguing about things that don’t matter
Add a plaque or something to put the names of the verses on - Absolutely.
Skills learned:
Using filters in Photoshop
Making linear patterns in Illustrator and filling them with color
Unicode characters for emoji have really stupid syntax and I hate them
Information learned:
Emoji on their own do not communicate anything
You can critique religion or a generation without getting mad about it
Being last in the critique order means everyone wants your turn to be over so they can go home
I can imagine doing this kind of work again. I have opinions about how people handle opinions these days. It seems that even the slightest disagreement means somebody wants someone dead. That’s just not a good way to about things in my opinion.
