Deep Cosmos.
by Project Kyle.
I would like to thank Kyle for my copy of the ARC. Due to this kind gesture, I have decided to leave a review.
I haven't been reviewing ARC's for authors lately because I haven't been getting the chance to read books that I actually want to read but when Kyle approached me and asked me if I would like to read his book I was intrigued due to it being the sort of story I would never actually pick up, boy am I glad he did!! I loved it! Was it perfect, no, but that's what made me love it even more and I believe Kyle has opened me up to a brand new genre of literature that I would never really have given a chance before.
When Sophia finds herself vulnerable and trapped by a madman, she never thinks for a second that another madman would be her saviour, nor would she join his band of merry men! Nerd has secrets, secrets that he would like to keep but how long can he keep them for? A story full of heroic underdogs and amazing aliens Sophia soon finds her feet and starts to wonder if this is where she belongs.
The book is full of action, and the sci-fi part of the story is amazing, you sit and build the world up as you go along which I found endearing as more time was spent on action than world building. I loved how we have illustrations throughout, I really liked this and it made it different, almost comic-book like!
I would have liked to have got to know more of our characters a bit better, characters like Tom, Grunt and Alcanore really intrigued me so I was pretty heartbroken just as we were getting to know them! I would have loved to have learnt more about them, especially Tom & Grunt as they really captured me.
I do like our main characters, Nerd, Sophia and Henry and I believe we will see them grow as the story progresses onto the next book which I honestly look forward to! I hope we see more character building. I really enjoyed how extra the book was and how it was different from what I have read before, especially the types of alien and space travel.
All in all the book kept my attention throughout and I never got bored as it was fast paced with plenty of action. I think for Kyle first proper novel he should be extremely proud! 3 and a half stars!
"Welcome to the thug life, I guess," Nerd joked. "But of course! I may be a bit of a weakling, but I will always look after my friends. Always!"
