Medusa
by Jessie Burton & Olivia Lomenech Gill
I have been obsessed with mythology (especially Greek) since I was a child. Jessie Burton did not disappoint with this poetic feminist retelling of Medusa. Medusa's story has always been hard-hitting as it makes a monster out of the victim, so to hear this version, I was awestruck and couldn't put it down. I just purchased a hard copy for myself plus, I work with residential youth so, I have bought a few copies for each house as I know the girls will love this. The writing style is mesmerising and tragically empowering. To hear the victims story instead of one of the monstrous gorgons was amazing and it captivates you from the beginning. The illustrations were beautiful and fit the story perfectly! There are so many quotes you could zone in on! I would certainly recommend this book to anyone who adores Greek Mythology. I would like to thank Bloomsbury Publishing Plc, Jessie Burton & Olivia Lomenech Gill for my copy of the ARC via Netgalley. Due to this kind gesture, I have decided to leave an honest review.
Once Upon a Broken Heart (Once Upon a Broken Heart, #1)
by Stephanie Garber
Thank you Stephanie Garber & Hodder & Stoughton for the ARC via Netgalley. Because of your generosity, I have left an honest review. I have never read Caraval, but after reading Once Upon a Broken Heart, I am hooked.
A good villain is always a pleasure to read and Jacks is witty, funny, and unpredictable. I was sucked into the story after being in a reading slump and I ordered the Barns & Noble version as soon as it was available. It came the other day (I had it shipped to the UK) and it is BEAUTIFUL.
If you are looking for a book with lots of twists and turns, this is it! I was captivated from the beginning, the world-building was amazing, I mean blood-suckingly enchanting.. if you know, you know!
It's hard to explain this book without giving anything away, I hate a spoiler but I can honestly say I devoured this in one sitting and was so sad when I was nearing the end. A big shout out to the way Stephanie writes!! The way she explains things really keeps you on your toes and you can imagine yourself there in the book.
All in all, I would give the book 5 stars because I absolutely loved it! I would advise making sure you have a clear schedule before starting this because you are in for a wild ride from start to finish.
"Please, Evangeline, let me stay." He wrapped his other arm around her and held onto her like a promise he intended to keep. The way he touched her was soft and reverent and full of all the comfort she'd missed so much."
Deadly Dreams (Fortuna Sworn, #3)
by K.J. Sutton
I would like to thank K.J. Sutton for providing me with a copy of her ARC, due to this kind gesture I've decided to leave an honest review. Oh my, lord, what the HELL!!!! COLLITH, YOU WILL BE THE END OF ME!!!!
Ok, so I have been in the worlds worst book slump, its took forever to even finish this book. Lockdown life is slowly but surely driving me insane with my motivation levels sitting at 0%. I found it hard to stay with Deadly Dreams around until 65% and holy mother of god what the hell! In true Sutton style, I was hooked!!
Can we show a huge appreciation of how dealing with sexual assault can be handled?! We hardly ever see heroines getting professional help and I am LIVING FOR IT! Fortuna grows through this story at a heartbreaking rate, but it actually makes her really human which I absolutely loved as it felt raw.
Now, I did find this really hard because we see Fortuna grow but the book also felt a bit stagnant up until 60%. I would pick it up, put it down, pick it up... you get my drift. I don't know if it was the whole Gwyn thing lasting a little longer than it probably should have? I just felt in limbo, again though I don't know if it's maybe the lockdown lifestyle we are living here in the UK and my attention span is at an all-time low. I just wanted the plot to move on, and boy didn't I get what I wished for!!
I love our characters, there isn't a character that I don't like in this series. My favourite part of Fortuna is she is not all good and that makes me sooo happy! I want to keep seeing her go all badass bitch on everyone, you're a nightmare honey F THESE B'S UP! Can someone point me in Oli's direction? Where art thou? DO NOT LEAVE ME. I also love me some Laurie, he is the cutest, Tuna is out here breaking all these hearts, BUT COLLITH... you sneaky son of a bitch, why didn't I pick up on all these little hints? GAH!!
The book could have easily been 5 star due to the ending, but again I really found it hard until 60% so I am going with 3.5 rating. I won't lie I love these characters and due to this, I cannot wait for the next instalment.
"Every time (view spoiler) has sex, he takes a piece of his partner," she whispered through the bars. "Just a tiny piece. You would've hardly noticed its absence."

Finally wrapped this one up! Kida from Atlantis the Lost Empire 💙 Wanted to try something new so I went for this sort of cinematic format but tbh I feel like that background shaved years off my life 😂 which probably means I need to paint more backgrounds! Been meaning to paint Kida for a long time now so I’m very glad I can cross her off my list! 😁
