LETS GO
Ladies, Gentlemen, assorted bastards and such. I got y’all an update on Project: GMX. The 3.8L Supercharged V6 Miata.
Called the machine shop today. Heads and block checked out, the build is good to go, I just have to get parts ordered and on the way. I’ve not built an engine before and 3800s aren’t exactly the most popular to build for power. So I need your help.
We’re shooting for 350-400 crank horsepower but from what I’ve seen going over 400 on a blower rather than turbos is well into the land of diminishing returns. Sticking with a supercharger though because I like the noise and the architecture is there already. Current supercharger is a Eaton M90 Gen III. Conversions to a Gen V are fairly common for the engine but I still have to research it. Same boost is generated, but more efficient, runs cooler. Sticking an engine built for power in a chassis not designed for that much engine, heat seems like it could be a problem, upgrade/swap seems the way to go, even if it is just for heat. Any thoughts or information on price, availability and ease of conversion would be appreciated here.
I also need pistons and rods but have no idea what is going to be too much or no enough. I’m open to suggestions on pistons, and currently H beam conrods are in the lead as a “don’t-have-to-worry-about-it” option over I beams.
More data as it becomes available. I’ll take all the help I can get so feel free to reblog, comment or message me.
Thanks folks, be good.
