most women who get abortions feel relief and the sense that they made the right decision:)
Part 2: “proof: guttmacher(.)org/pubs/journals/4512213(.)html and medicalnewstoday(.)com/releases/12951(.)php note the sentence: ‘It is rare for a woman to become clinically depressed after having an abortion.’”
Part 3: “also very interesting how you ignore the fact that pregnancy and birth also lead to damage to a person’s mental health, such as depression, PTSD, and psychosis:) mentalhealthamerica(.)net/conditions/postpartum-disorders”
1. I find it interesting that the study you linked to gathered information from women merely one week after their abortion. This very short time frame makes me question their accuracy; women who regret their abortions and suffer from post-abortive mental health problems could very well have initially felt relief, but the grieving process typically takes more than seven days. The study is also from the Guttmacher Institute, Planned Parenthood’s research wing that has been proven to skew data. Furthermore, this study from Dr. Priscilla Coleman revealed that “women who had undergone an abortion experienced an 81% increased risk of mental health problems.” So there’s that. These studies also look more into the negative mental effects of abortion, but they are from the American Association of Pro-life Obstetricians and Gynecologists, so I understand if you worry about bias. Your second link, judging by their preference for indefinite pronouns, seems to be rather subjective. I would prefer more concrete data.
Either way, I feel that this is a good time to link to Project Rachel (also found at 1-888-456-HOPE), a wonderful resource for those grieving after having an abortion.
If you are suffering from post-abortive mental health issues, I want you to know that you are not alone. We here at BSFL love you and will not judge you. We always encourage getting professional help with mental health issues, but our ask box is open if you ever need to talk. ♡
2. The psychological effects of pregnancy and birth are very real, and as I said in my reply earlier, to combat this the pro-life movement strives to give every pregnant woman the love and support she needs. Pro-life pregnancy centers also provide material and emotional support for women in crisis pregnancies. For those suffering from mental disorders before conceiving, this is a good article discussing how to prepare for a medicated pregnancy. I encourage anyone dealing with prenatal or postpartum mental disorders to talk with their physician and discuss therapy options.
