the Debt Collector is more of a cog in the torture machine than one of the big players controlling the town. they don't have as much influence as Bailey has in DOL, but they do develop a bit of a fascination w PC throughout the game. i dont plan on making them a LI, that could change but for now it's not planned; either way they have to keep going after the PC and punishing them if they fail to meet their quota bc it's their literal job, if they don't do it they'll be fucked, and they're too selfish to put their own life at stake even if they come to like the PC
PC is going to be a young adult, tho i am considering giving an option for them to be older. default age range would be 18-25, an older age range would probably be 26-30, so still p young. the Debt Collector is in their mid 40s, and i plan on making it possible for the PC to find them at the pub during certain nights of the week, although interacting w them there might not be the best of ideas, but that's also where the option to fuck them will be so yk. it's a risk-
Debt Collector's name is Emery regardless of gender btw! im considering copying DOL's NPC titles for the game just bc i personally quite like it, but that's their official name XD
i definitely do want Emery to have a similar relationship w the PC to what Bailey has in DOL, but i dont want it to be identical - that's p much my whole philosophy when it comes to this game, ik i keep calling it a DOL clone but i do want to making something new as well. Em does have a sense of ownership over the PC bc of the debt, and if PC fails to pay them the "normal way" they'll definitely find other ways in which the PC can make themself useful, which will also serve as an alternative to getting some of the soft bad ends if the PC fails to fight them off. fighting Emery off successfully will have consequences to them however, so if your PC ends up taking a liking to Emery you'll probably have to reconsider whether you'd prefer to beat them up or not. Em is still a goon to someone more powerful - if you fight them off too many times they might end up gone for a week, and their replacement wouldn’t be nearly as "lenient" as Emery is. also you'd lose Em's affection, and the lower their affection is the worse your punishments get
i do definitely want to make it possible for the PC to eventually be able to come face to face w Emery's boss... that would probably come later though, as it would be the ending of their questline, and i want that gameplay loop to last for a while, especially when the game's still in development
honestly making Em a LI would definitely be interesting... only problem is the LI list keeps getting longer 😭
I've claimed Emery as a blorbo already ❤️ I do love the idea of other, worse debt collectors to replace Emery if you keep fighting them back.
