Daegara VII of Arugenta, the Silver Queen
Daegara, Seventh of Her Name, had not been meant to for the throne of Arugenta. Born after three boys, Daegara was given months at most to live, due to her sickly and thin appearance. The Royal Family solemnly accepted this fact proposed by the doctors, and prepared a coffin worthy of a royalty’s burial. Four months later, the baby Daegara had outgrown her coffin.
Even though her chances of ascending to the throne were non-existent, Daegara still demanded teaching and upbringing worthy of a queen, and a king even. Her strong personality shone through from an early age, she mastered skills not just of noblewomen, but also basic swordsmanship, general battle tactics and horse riding. She also made sure to ever hone her mastery over her natural magical skills.
Her unforeseeable rise to the throne did not come peacefully. The eldest son died shortly after his coronation in a hunting incident, the middle son was poisoned by nobles who then broke out in rebellion against the Court, and the youngest son was supposedly killed during a battle for the throne. Daegara was crowned in a rushed, tensed and constantly threatened atmosphere, and quickly took matters into her own hands. Keeping the reins in her iron fists, gathering allies, mercenaries and those still loyal to the throne, she eventually won back the whole of Arugenta through three years of wars and negotiations.
With her title secured and her dynasty saved, Queen Daegara’s infamy spread far and wide across the land. Her soft but granite-solid tone and approach to any and all matters were legendary, and all feared the gentle smiled that nigh-constantly graced her features – one could never guess if an agreement or a death sentence lied behind those lips. Dissenting voices might claim it had been she who had arranged for the deaths of all three of her brothers, but this remains unproven. Daegara cracked down hard and fast on the lawlessness that gripped her country after three years of war, she reformed and greatly improved law enforcement, and through a series of temporary but infamously harsh taxations she refilled the treasury and pulled the economy back on its feet.
Not all neighboring countries look upon Her Majesty’s House with great liking, and not all of her people praise her name. However, she is undoubtedly a strong monarch whose iron grip had dragged a country back from the brink of collapse.
