album * Isidore (2009)
This is the third album I recorded for Project168, an internet event in which participants would write and record a short work within a week. I wound up recording a full-length album each time I participated: Hammer Into Anvil (2005), Sister (2006) and Isidore (2009). Unfortunately, the website that hosted the project's results has not been up for several years and so these albums have been inaccessible.
Isidore is a concept album. It was inspired by and incorporates elements from the surrealist film La ville des pirates (City Of Pirates). The title takes its name from the central character, whose voice is heard incanting spells and lamenting on the album. But this album is not an interpretation of the film: it is a companion piece. I wanted to explore the moods and themes of the film in a personal way and that is what led to this music.
Much later in the year, I performed the first song from this album live and recorded an alternate version of it based on that. It can be found on Alive III.
