Welcome to my blog”1francforachange”
First of all, I would like to thank everybody who donated money for this good cause from the bottom of my heart. I am planning on going to Nepal this summer. I will be posting pictures on this blog, so that you could see for yourself what the money was used for.
Eighty-eight fuel tankers and over 100 goods-laden trucks entered Nepal through Jogbani border point until 4 pm Tuesday afternoon.
Busy couple of days planning the trip and coming across more potential hurdles even sitting here in my office. Dashain, a major festival period in Nepal, started today. Millions of Nepalis travel to their hometowns and villages for the festival(s). I read earlier today that internal flights are all fully booked but that road travel although busy is lower than usual. That’s all down to severe fuel shortages. On the positive side there have been numerous reports over recent days of the blockades on the India/Nepal border being lifted and fuel tankers flowing through.
Whist I am in Nepal there is the Tihar festival slap in the middle of my visit. I made sure that I booked a flight from KTM to Pokara on the 12th November today - that is in the middle of Tihar. Just in case the airways get as busy as this week.
I visited Countryside Outdoor Clothing in Stevenage Old Town this week to buy some equipment odds and sods I may need when visiting some of the rural villages in Dhadang and Gorkha. I got talking to the guy in the shop about my project and he delighted me by giving me contacts of friends he has working in Nepal running a couple of NGOs they became involved with after the earthquakes in April. As tying down a detailed itinerary with Nepali NGOs is like juggling jelly it is great to get more contacts.
Today I’ve discovered that my promise to pledgers that I would send limited edition print postcards to them from Nepal is not as simple as I envisaged - the sheer quantity who responded to my Crowdfunder make it a big task. Not that I am complaining. I now have all the address labels printed and ready.
So things are shaping up well - just need the borders to be kept open and the fuel flowing.
