Our beloved project Sagarmatha Next is a center for art and innovation. Considering this great mix and the importance of local, Prof. Anne Feenstra with Tashi from Khumjung, curated 18 yak wool curtains for the IC building. Eight of these curtains will face the Film Salon and with a heavy 1.4 kg/m2 density, they will dramatically increase the acoustic quality. Designed in triple-bands, using local patterns of  lho-char, tit-char and ghul-char, seven of these beautiful curtains also separate the Shop and the Workshop space. Tashi has had a blast creating these beauties!

The Journey of SMA

Seven years ago, in the winter of Nepali year 2070, Sustainable Mountain Architecture (SMA) was founded in the Kathmandu Valley. Today, our Chakupat Studio is home to incredibly talented, pro-active and multi cultured nationals and international members of Design, Architecture, Structure, Interior, Graphic, Management, Education and the Arts. We also work from remote locations and building sites.

Thanks to our many project principals and well-wishers, who also believe in pro-people, pro-ecology, pro-local and pro-innovation much like us, Team SMA has been able to successfully create 21 buildings, 8 pavilions, 6 interiors, 6 landscapes and 5 exhibitions.

We hope 2078 will bring you good health, lots of inspiration and meaningful creations!
