I was sorry to learn that Olivia Newton-John passed away after a prolonged and painful illness. I’m glad that she is no longer suffering.

I rewatched her 1981 music video for “Physical”. It seems so quaint and harmless 40 years later. And the twist at the end was prescient.

Skincare enthusiasts and people who get sick a lot, I need some advice:

Whenever I get sick in a way that involves a runny nose and congestion for a prolonged period of time, the base of my nose under my nostrils always dries out, cracks, and just becomes a big scab.

Does anyone know how to minimize this?

I've tried aloe and/or lotion infused kleenex (facial tissues), lotioning my nose regularly, and polysporin.

हमेशा सोने के कई किलो गहनों से लदे रहने वाले गोल्डन बाबा की मौत हो गई है. गोल्डन बाबा का असली नाम सुधीर कुमार मक्कड़ था, लंबी बीमारी के बाद मंगलवार को एम्स में उनका निधन हो गया. गोल्डन बाबा नाम से मशहूर सुधीर मक्कड़ मूल रूप से गाजियाबाद के रहने वाले थे, वो काफी लंबे समय से बीमार चल रहे थे.

गोल्डन बाबा का आपराधिक इतिहास भी रहा है, उनके खिलाफ पूर्वी दिल्ली में अपहरण, फिरौती, जबरन वसूली, मारपीट, जान से मारने की धमकी देने कई केस दर्ज हुए, वो अपने इलाके के घोषित अपराधी थे. वो गारमेंट्स के कारोबार में भी थे.

कहा जाता है कि अपने पापों का प्रायश्चित करने के लिए उन्होंने संन्यासी बनने का फैसला लिया था. वह सोने को अपना देवता मानते थे, इसलिए बदन पर कई किलो सोने के गहने पहने रहते थे. साल 1972 से उनको इसी हुलिए में देखा जा रहा था. गोल्डन बाबा अपनी सभी उंगलियों में अंगूठी के अलावा बाजूबंद और लॉकेट भी पहने रहते थे.

आभूषणों के पहने होने के चलते कोई उनकी हत्या न कर दे इसलिए उन्होंने अपनी सुरक्षा के लिए उन्होंने 20 से ज्यादा बॉडीगार्ड भी लगा रखे थे. पूर्वी दिल्ली के गांधी नगर में रहने वाले मक्कड़ ने अपना छोटा-सा आश्रम भी बनाया था और वो हरिद्वार के कई अखाड़ों से भी जुड़े थे.

4 month Anniversary

Today marks the fourth month since I sought treatment for...whatever it is that’s going on with me. In four months I’ve had 2 tests, 12 doctor’s visits, and no diagnosis. When you’re in pain time seems to go both exceedingly fast and excruciatingly slowly. I’d almost forgotten what it’s like not to be in pain until the surgeon prescribed me some pain medication (my doctor doesn’t prescribe them). I started crying after the first one kicked in.  I finally have an upper abdominal CT scan set up for next week and am hoping for just a little bit of insight.
