Disney Debunking 4: Achilles's Heel?
So, I love Hercules. The Animated Series is a lot of fun, and I'm rewatching it all for the first time as an adult. I consider it canon to the Disneyverse.
Luisa is also a fan, as evidenced by her references to Greek mythology. She's a total Hercules nerd.
Side note: part of me HATES that Encanto didn't use Disney's established version of Herc. Making him older looking would have been fine! Whatever! Instead we get... Mariano with a beard? I'm pretty sure they just put a beard on Mariano's character model. This is my ONE big flaw with that beautiful movie...
Now I have to justify that Luisa's books must not have illustrations, so she imagines Hercules like the hunkiest Colombian guy she knows. Does that mean Luisa has a crush on Mariano too? I wouldn't have to be opening this can of worms if they'd just tossed a beard on Disney's Hercules like they should have!!!
Auradon Cheer Squad: The Royal Wolves
Alright basically I was writing a plot for Audrey in an alternative D1 fanfic and part of it focused on her actually having a relationship with Carlos. Now that plus the inspiration of this pic:
So because of this, and the fact I actually botheted to count the number of cheerleaders in the movie, I literally ended up creating a roster. So here it is! But heres a few thing to mention:
1. As of between D1 and D2, there are a total of 18 cheerleaders on the squad.
2. Mascot animal: Phillips the Belgian Horse. (Can be changed to wolf)
3. Mostly girls on the team (male cheerleaders welcomed!!!)
4. Noncompetitive cheer
5. Financed by fundraisers and a grant from a few royal families
6. Coach: Megara Leos nèe Sideris (Hercules' estranged wife)
7. Treasurer: Fairy Godmother Flora
Members of the Royal Wolves
1. Audrey Rose (Captain/Daughter of King Philip and Queen Aurora)
2. Nike "Nicole" Leos (Co-Captain/Demigod Daughter of Hercules and Meg)
3. Cascade "Cassie" Clayton-Porter (Daughter of Tarzan/John "Jack" Clayton the Second and Jane Porter)
4. Asimina "Mia" Drakos (Civilian/transfer student from Apheliotia)
5. Opal Guillory (Civilian/Mama Odie's distant *granddaughter* from Bayou de Orleans)
6. Zara Asghar (Civilian/Transfer Student from the Lone Keep (Agrabah)/Part of Sultana Jasmin's scholarship)
7. Kimi Smith (**Princess**/Daughter to Chieftess Pocahontas and John Smith/Half-Sister to Anna Rolfe)
8. Anna Rolfe (**Princess**/Daughter to Cheiftess Pocahontas and John Rolfe/Half-Sister to Kimi Smith)
9. Heide Bergmann (Daughter of Doc, of the 7 Dwarves)
10. Billie Bergmann (Daughter of Bashful, one of the 7 Dwarves)
11. Avalon Hanmer (*Civilian*/Transfer from Camelot Heights)
12. Amphitrite "Amy" Seymour (*Princess*/Daughter of Attina, Heir to Atlantica)
13. Arabella Strand (*Princess*/Daughter of Alana, Second Heir to Atlantica)
14. Phoebe Vera (Civilian/Transfer Student From Auradon Capital's Public High School)
15. Lei Laohu (Civilian/Transfer student from Northern Wei) Name Translated: Thunder Tiger.
16. Eire Holt (*Civilian*/ Transfer Student from *Arendelle*)
17. Signe Christensen (Civilian/From Seaside)
18. Carlos de Vile (Civilian/Son of Cruella de Vile)
Key: (*) = More to the story, especially their social class.
(**) = Historically, Pocahontas was daughter of a chief, so labelling her a "Princess" is incorrect. Same would go for her daughters, but people wouldn't know what to call them, so they're labelled "Princesses".
Mod Notes: YEESSSSS! We love to see it. I love seeing the squad fleshed out. Thank you for sharing.
School of Wandless Magic
How about an American (or any country really) school of wandless magic.
A war is going on, maybe WWI. Soldier-Mages are losing wands left and right. the wands that most mages came to the front lines with (the one they'd had since childhood, the one they were perfectly matched to) are casualties of war. Expelliarmus'd or accio'd into no-man's land, or broken with the force of an enemy's spell or hex. Wandmakers are having to deal with a very high demand, churning out wands day and night. wand makers are artists not assembly lines, there are shortages in the trenches. there is no time to find perfect matches for Soldier-Mages anymore, as long as the wand doesn't completely reject the individual, that’s your new wand.
At some point a group of  highly ranked military-mages started asking questions such as, "why do we use wands? they're just magical conduits, like training wheels for magic. What if a wand gets broken in battle? Most of our soldiers can't cast wandlessly." not having perfectly matched wand limits the efficacy of our people.Â
WWI was a war of attrition, anything anything would be an advantage. both sides were making and breaking wands at the same rate, but if one side didn't need wands, that would be a BIG advantage. So an emergency training camp was set up for (currently wandless because of the shortages) soldier-mages. some were naturals, some were hopeless. In the end, the allies had an elite force of wandless mages that gave them the advantage, and possibly turned the tide of the war.
Fast forward decades later and Prometheus Academy exists. It is dedicated to teaching wandless magic, located in middle-of-nowhere, USA.
day-schoolers starting age 7 (this is mostly if accidental magic is a big problem for a student. the parents can connect their home to the floo system and floo the child to and fro school until they are boarding age).
boarding starts age 10
optional graduation at age 17
graduate at age 20 (age 17-20 that can do a three year apprenticeship on campus. it’s like magical college, or they can leave sooner).
they still use the archaic term “Mage” instead of the gender specific “Witch” or “Wizard.”
a/n: I will add more when I think of it. oh, and Prometheus is the titan of foresight, and someone having the foresight to teach wandless magic to soldiers is what started this school.
