Butterflies flitted past them. All different sorts of colors, swirling together under a blanket of impossibly bright stars.

“Stop this,” the protagonist said, turning on the sorcerer. “Take me back to my friends.”

The sorcerer leaned on their walking stick, milky, sightless eyes crinkling into a sad expression. “Isn’t it better this way? No pain, no sacrifice. You won’t have to see them die.”
