Prompt #130
You were an orphan, taken in by a group of assassins at a young age and trained to be one of them. You are truly one of the best.
One day you get a new target assigned. When you open the file, you see your own face staring back at you from the picture.
Except, it's not you. It's your long lost twin who took a drastically different path in life.
Prompt #130
You are someone who fell from greatness. No one remembers who you are anymore. Not even yourself.
Drabble Challenge 130 (for it-is-never-twins-watson)
"You fell asleep in the tub?!"
Thursday: Day 14
The study continues and is making considerable progress. Daily samples and data analysis have determined upon both exquisitely pleasing and unfathomably perplexing outcomes which owe little to logic and much to the randomness of a scatter graph devised by a two-year old. An example follows:
I had returned from a pointless stakeout of the Soames Garden Centre and an irritating conversation with Mr Hilton Soames regarding his missing prized orchids...
Molly Hooper: (yawning) Hello, lovely (kissing me - pleasing). What on earth is the time?
Me: 9pm. You appear dishevelled, pale-skinned and wrinkled, with red pressure points about your left shoulder and corresponding cheek…
Molly: (interrupting whilst smiling and loosening dressing gown - also pleasing) You know what’s happened - you tell me, Only-one-in-the-world!
Me: You fell asleep in the tub again, no doubt resultant from the four fourteen hour shifts you have worked since Sunday. I suggest a word with Mike Stamford and an early night.
Molly: (removing several items of my clothing with surprising skill and alacrity and caressing my neck in a far from medical manner - indescribably pleasing and most distracting) I heartily agree.
Saturday: Day 16
There is never a dull moment when you live with Sherlock Holmes. He observes me constantly and I do like the way he attempts to categorise my actions and predict their outcomes into a model of behaviour he can understand. It’s adorable, quirky and so him, but I haven’t the heart to disillusion him. I have always fallen asleep in the tub; the relaxing warmth and soft cocooning embrace of the scented water knocks me out everytime, but Sherlock finds it perplexing and inexplicable - baths are for bathing then vacating as quickly as possible. Ah, we learn a little more each day, don’t we?
Today I learnt a lot, and so did Sherlock.
(Noises from the front door, which suddenly flies open, followed by cackling laughter - John - and a disgruntled baritone - well, you know. Stomping up the stairs, then another, lighter, female addition, exclaiming surprise and not inconsiderable mirth - Mrs Hudson. Goodness me).
(The door flies open. I am transfixed at the sight of him.)
Me: Oh my goodness, what on earth happened?
John: (trying to keep it together) he won’t let me explain, but it’s pretty funny.
Sherlock: (hair, coat, scarf, face all filthy with mud, tufts of vegetation and emitting a distinctly earthy aroma) Thank you John, I can take it from here. Goodnight.
(John leaves. I walk around Sherlock slowly as he disrobes carefully. At every movement, a handful of … compost(?) falls from his frame. I suspect I can see daffodil bulbs in his pocket.)
Me: I’m going to make a deduction (he stops, shaking his head and allowing a flurry of soil to find its way onto the rug).
Sherlock: Oh, be my guest (stepping out of shirt, trousers, everything, ineffectually brushing off dirt and plant detritus).
Me: Another stakeout at the Soames Garden Centre…
(he scowls, but his heart isn’t in it, and pads nakedly into the bathroom, muddy footprints as evidence)
Me: A long and tiring week with little sleep for you, coupled with a warm greenhouse…
(I hear the shower turn on and the rattle of the curtain, but the door is open and I know he can hear me)
Me: You and John wanted to hide somewhere to catch the thieves red-handed but didn’t know Saturday was repotting day…
(I following him into the bathroom, talking through the curtain)
Me: The giant wooden pots were a perfect size for concealment…
(I wait)
Me: But the hours ticked on and it was so warm in there…
(shockingly, the curtain snaps back and a wet forearm reaches out, pulling me fully clothed into the shower and the filthy, wet embrace of Sherlock Holmes)
Sherlock: (grinning, filthily) Yes Molly, I fell asleep in the tub.
(Kiss, laugh, get soaked, etc. etc.)
