"What's the matter, cousin?" Illario said, his voice too hoarse to properly turn it into a purr. "You've already told me my place is on my knees in front of you. If that's what you want, you only have to ask." Lucanis is the only person with the authority to kill him, the only one who will still touch him, and the only person alive worth caring about. Illario just needs to convince Lucanis that he's worth keeping around. Or, Illario tries to help. He cares less about the innocent lives at stake than about Lucanis's emotional well-being, which is only half the reason it goes poorly.
