Could You Excuse Yourself? / James & Regulus
Walking out to the pitch with broom in hand, Regulus glanced to the sky. Not a cloud in the damn thing and he was thankful for at least that fact. He'd then looked behind him and in front. Nobody. It was a bit unnerving. Was he missing something that everyone else had a memo to? He'd not talked to Sirius all morning, since he saw him for a moment at breakfast. Regulus had managed a small wave, but noticed one of his friends pull him along. So much for that, but it didn't matter to him. They were different. They were from different houses and different worlds. And that different world came into view when he saw the red and gold up between the circular goals of the field. Regulus scanned the sky to see if there was more than one body.. no, just the one. But he couldn't tell who .. just that it was Gryffindor. Maybe coming out to the pitch wasn't all that great of an idea. But Regulus wanted to practice for the next match and this was one of his only free times.
Mounting his broom with a single swing of his leg, Regulus let himself hover. But obviously made sure to look out for any bludgers, if there were any. He wasn't always sure, but he'd already been hit by one in the head... and didn't want another. Sometimes Regulus oddly wondered if that one had knocked him crazy.
"OI, GET OFF THE PITCH." Regulus shouted suddenly after noticing who it was. Potter. No big deal, he could handle this. "Your turn is over, Potter!" Every time Regulus laid eyes on James Potter, a ripple of jealousy ran over him and climbed up his spine, bone by bone. James Potter was the only person Sirius would sell everyone else out for. And it hurt. It hurt because James was the brother he could never be. So in turn, Regulus turned his sadness and jealousy into anger. It was the only way he knew how... the only way he knew how to cope. If he hated James, then he could get over it. But in truth, he didn't hate James at all. He admired him and that in itself disgusted the younger Black. Regulus never admired anyone.
