Grammar Gurus Unite
Grammar sticklers everywhere celebrated last week when an Ohio woman's parking ticket was thrown out due to a missing comma.
Andrea Cammelleri successfully convinced Judge Robert A. Hendrickson and the 12th District Court of Appeals in Ohio to reverse her conviction because of an incorrect comma placement.
Cammelleri's 1993 Ford pickup was towed and ticketed after it was left parked on a village street for more than 24 hours. However, Cammelleri explained that the ordinance prohibited "any motor vehicle camper, trailer, farm implement and/or non-motorized vehicle" from daylong parking, and she argued that her truck is not a "motor vehicle camper." Judge Hendrickson agreed, overturned her conviction, and said the village should amend the ordinance, to the delight of punctuation enthusiasts everywhere.
The village will reportedly have to pay Cammelleri about $1,500 to cover the costs of towing and legal fees.
