remember Prophet Siren from two years ago? there’s another example of this mystic species.

Prophet Siren Born inside the pearly shells, the rare creatures own the melodious voice of a siren and the unimaginable beauty that the mermaids are well known for- a dangerous combination. It is said that their voice can put you in a trance that will reveal the future to those who are courageous enough to get closer. But do not be tricked by their cunning intelligence and fall victim in their claws. If you spend too much time listening to their deadly songs, the mesmerizing creatures will slowly pull you inside their home where you will end up being devoured.

💙 Alright, if you don't mind I'll keep the ideas coming^^ What do you think of anglerfish mermaids? Luring their prey in with haunting lights like willow whisps but under the sea? Or a scarred mermaid warrior that has a nemesis seafarer above the sea like in Moby Dick :D

so in one of my stories I’m actually exploring these things, but I don’t want to bore people with lore of the stories they know nothing about skhbdjksas but I have what I call “Deep Sea Mermaids”!

they’re basically angler fish and other species that live on the bottom of the seas and oceans. they’re not the typical half human half fish mermaids like those that live closer to the surface, they’re much more on the monstrous and wild side of the spectrum (some of them even ancient ones that are much bigger than their newer sisters and brothers :D a megalodon mermaid if you want, it’s not exactly that but it’s close to help you imagine what I mean)

only that most of them don’t have a fish+mermaid name because the setting is in a complete different fantasy world so it wouldn’t fit. the visuals are inspired by our world’s fishes but I play around with the names

here you have an example of another sea-folk species I have in my story, a cross between a mermaid and a siren, called the Prophet Sirens. the picture is old but the concept still stays
