Prophet Siren Born inside the pearly shells, the rare creatures own the melodious voice of a siren and the unimaginable beauty that the mermaids are well known for- a dangerous combination. It is said that their voice can put you in a trance that will reveal the future to those who are courageous enough to get closer. But do not be tricked by their cunning intelligence and fall victim in their claws. If you spend too much time listening to their deadly songs, the mesmerizing creatures will slowly pull you inside their home where you will end up being devoured.

Rotten Sun - Subplot
Fandom: Kpop
Kpop group: Seventeen
Character: Wen Junhui/Jun
Genre: angst
Word count:1,405
Warning: none
There may be some grammar mistakes. Sorry for that! English is not my native language.
Rotten Sun is the main plot I have with my dear @cheebsrtd in which Jun is a vampire, who feels like he doesn’t belong anywhere. This will make him unable to accept people around him and even his own self.
Summary: “I can’t deny the fact that your blood is flowing through my veins, and we will always have this fragile bound between us.”
💙Oh! The Prophet Siren sounds so cool! What would the megadolon mermaid look like? And now that you mentioned deep sea creatures... I bet you know those fishes that have see through bodies where you can basically see their bones and organs? I think that would be a pain in the a-hem to draw but as a concept for merfolk it would probably be really cool :D Also... ray hybrids that look like angels^^ What do you think?
ahhh I sososo love all of these
the megalodon-like mermaids would be HUGE, gentle giants with dark or grey skins, wise but not wanting to deal with the human folk. however as this is a dark fantasy story, people are trying to hunt them and bring them to surface, thus they raise these ocean monsters trying to stay hidden while the monsters protect them. I'll include a drawing of one in the challenge and probably expand the lore more, the story has many races and planes and characters so I try not to spend too much on side plots so I won't lose the essence of the story xD
I sosososo love the idea of a ghostly body mermaid and an angel one, holy god, you already gave me so many ideas I just hope I will be able to draw all of them!! cause I freaking want to aaaa
but have you tried to write them down and make a story?? or to draw or idk, your ideas are so great you should really let your creativity out into the world
💙 Alright, if you don't mind I'll keep the ideas coming^^ What do you think of anglerfish mermaids? Luring their prey in with haunting lights like willow whisps but under the sea? Or a scarred mermaid warrior that has a nemesis seafarer above the sea like in Moby Dick :D
so in one of my stories I’m actually exploring these things, but I don’t want to bore people with lore of the stories they know nothing about skhbdjksas but I have what I call “Deep Sea Mermaids”!
they’re basically angler fish and other species that live on the bottom of the seas and oceans. they’re not the typical half human half fish mermaids like those that live closer to the surface, they’re much more on the monstrous and wild side of the spectrum (some of them even ancient ones that are much bigger than their newer sisters and brothers :D a megalodon mermaid if you want, it’s not exactly that but it’s close to help you imagine what I mean)
only that most of them don’t have a fish+mermaid name because the setting is in a complete different fantasy world so it wouldn’t fit. the visuals are inspired by our world’s fishes but I play around with the names
here you have an example of another sea-folk species I have in my story, a cross between a mermaid and a siren, called the Prophet Sirens. the picture is old but the concept still stays

From Michaud's Mirror of the Orient, and included in the introduction to M. E. Combs-Schilling's Sacred Performances, this story is providing inspiration for my final paper - on the sublime and the storm and #Sandy - for Dr. Taussig:
There were in Baghdad two advisers in the caliph's service. It was unclear which of the pair was the more refined, so superlative was the taste and splendor of each. The caliph's court urged him to put them to the test: he consented, and decided as the criterion that each should arrange a banquet. He who organized the most elegant display would be the ultimate authority on taste and etiquette. Thus the day arrived for the first of the competitors. Upon entering the banquet hall, what was to be found? Perfection itself. All without flaw: the guest selection, the quality of the menu, the embellishment of the hall uniting fresh elegance with brilliant lighting, all lacking any obvious artifice. There were poems recited, music, and dance, edifying but friendly conversation, at times erudite, but always witty. All was truly perfect; to imagine a better presentation was impossible. The other contestant seemed doomed. Some already mourned his defeat. Others, more enterprising, commenced paying their court to the obvious victor. One week later, the night of the second banquet arrived. There was at first extreme curiosity, them great surprise, finally a profound disappointment. Surprise and disappointment arose because of the nature of this second banquet: it was in every way, point by point, identical to the previous one. The same guest were invited, the hall's arrangement and decoration a repetition. Identical were the poems, the melodies, and dancing. There were the same flowers and the same fragrances. Conversation took up again as a repetition of itself. Echoes and reflections. It was impossible for the frustrated guests to critize the plagerist; holding their toungues, they began to enjoy themself. After a short while, the caliph announced, "Today's banquet has won. May the Lord's benediction follow its maker always, just as will our delighted appreciation for the exceptional moment he has given us, and which we shall forevermore savor in our memories." The stunned hall showed no reaction. What if the caliph spoke ironically? That supposition seemed likely, and in fact, was the only possible explanation. Finally, the great adviser came forth, urged on by the crowd, and dared ask, "Oh great and illustrious caliph! In your unsparing justness, you perhaps wanted to laugh at the impertinence of this unlucky one, or else, in your boundless wisdom, you have seen what our eyes were not capable of seeing. If you limitless indulgence would accept to clear up this matter for us, please share the reasons for your choice?" And the caliph responded, "I do not know what to say, in truth because the reason is subtle and avoids clear explanation. We had almost forgotten that moment we lived but a week ago. Now, this adviser's art has restored through a dreamlike repetition all the magic that had disappeared, all the evaporated perfume from the shattered flask. What occurred the other night simply occurred. But the reflection has tapped and actually restored our flow of happiness in its spontaneous perfection. In addition, it gave use three other treasures: memory, recognition, and victory over the annihilation of the past. No success is sweeter than this!"
"The gates of laughter are constantly opening within the spirit of the elderly scholar as in that of the naive child. Even though laughter does grow tired and worn, it brings, to those who do laugh, a movement of communion so sudden that they stand abashed. This radiant spell of laughter in which we lose ourselves has no exact location; it has no precise point of departure, no definite direction, but when it occurs, the separation of the withdrawn individual from a world of sudden flashing movement instantly ceases. An individual's fall has only to reveal the illusory nature of stability, and the witnesses of that fall pass, with him, from a world in which all is stable to one of slips and slides. Barriers collapse, and the convulsive moments of those laughing break free and reverberate in unison. Not only does each man participate in the limitless streaming of the universe but his laughter mixes with that of others, so that a room will contain not several laughs, but a single wave of hilarity. The icy solitude of each laughing individual is, as it were, refined; all lives are waters flowing into a torrent."

I've been reading a lot of Bataille for Dr. Taussig's class. Most of it has me a bit lost but some of it, like this, is next level
