Whistle. Whistle to everything. To the birds, to the trees, to the bugs and the leaves. Whistle. And if you can't whistle, hum. Just make sure you take caution if you hear a whistle back.

Taking control can be hard. But you need to assert yourself. Stomp on your ground. Breathe deeply. Affirm your presence. You are a metaphysical lightbulb, and deciding how brightly you shine depends on where you plug yourself into. Be bright when needed. And dim when necessary

The most common trees in your area will be your best friends. Learn of them. Commune with them. Hug them

And always remember to use critical thinking skills and discernment. Be open, but be critical. Make sure you're not deluding yourself

The Gods, and Family

I come from a family thats broken, to say the least. My parents were never married and split before I was a year old. Despite having numerous siblings, most of what I remember growing up, I was an only child. We may have visited the grandparents on my mom’s side a few times for a few holidays, but I never got to form a real relationship with them. I lived with my grandparents on my dads side in my late teens for a few years, but I was well past the bond forming stage of my development. I come from a family thats broken. And in that, there’s this... odd feeling attached to the relationships that are so present in families. Father. Mother. Grandmother. Grandfather. Feelings of... disillusion, animosity, regret, disappointment, and desire. The relationship I have now with my parents is not the typical one you’d find. It’s full of distance. And that feels.. unfortunate. When i began praying, venerating, worshipping the gods, there was something in it that I had never felt before, in totality at least. Going to Freyja when I was sad, meeting the altar with tears. It’s the warmest place to be. It’s the safest place to be. In the soft candle light, embraced by the arms of a divine mother who whispers to you “hush child, all is well”. It was feeling that love, and protection, and care that was so absent. She is mother, in those moments, to me If that isn’t who Freyja is for you, thats okay. That’s not who she is all the time for me either but there are people like me kids like me who have no real experience with mother, father, protector, parent and thats okay. If you’re reading this, and you’re one of those kids, it’s okay. I’m aware of how much it hurts, and how numb it feels. But it isn’t your fault and the Gods, the Gods are full of love. The Gods can be another kind of found family. The Gods can, in some aspects, be a figure of love, and protection for you. I don’t think its a substitute or a solution to the pain. But it can be so helpful to find mother, or father, or grandmother, or grandfather, or any other family element you feel disconnected from, at the altar. Your Gods love you

I think the most useful thing I can impart on people who are new to their practice is the importance of the little things. I could write a fat couple of posts about I spell I found in a book, or one I developed, or an event from the success of a spell, but all that really does is give you some information. Don’t get me wrong, information is great, but the little things are what get you really into a practice, a craft. - I’ve said this a thousand times before, and I’ll say it a thousand times again. Go the fuck outside. Your armchair might be comfy but you won’t have any ability if you spend all your time in it. You can only get so much from reading - Interact with local and “smaller” spirits. Creating a connection to your local spirits, house spirits, land spirits, it’ll not only make your craft more exciting, but you’ll feel such a deeper connection with the world around you. This doesn’t just mean go for a walk on the bike path. Stumble through bramble. Get cuts and scrapes. Let your blood and sweat soak into the dirt. Find yourself with pine needles in your mouth and branch lashes across your face. The pain those spirits have to offer is just as worthy as the beauty they offer. On the topic of houses spirits, try creating a little shrine for them. Leave out milk, bread, fruits, and even little ornaments or art projects. I have a shrine i’ve just set up on top of my piano in my music room that’ll be going towards them. You live in this house. Get to know the spirits. - Speak!! For the love of god, talk! Say words!! Words have power! Speak during prayer, speak during hikes, speak during a time when you can feel the electricity of an entity around you. S p e a k. Your voice is a valuable tool. On that, sing! Hum, whistle, sing. Whether you’re good or bad. Sing. (Also know when to hold your tongue. Know when to say thank you and when to go in silence. Discernment is important.) - And branching off from that last bit, discernment. Please try and practice discernment. Especially if like me, you’re mentally ill. Use discernment. If you’re not sure about something, divine on it. Your tarot cards, your runes, geomancy, divining is your best friend, and it’ll great you insight as to what is real and what isn’t - And on that note, divine with purpose. Using divination to ask “how will my day go?” is a massive underestimate of the ability that divining tools have. Try and make divination special. You don’t have to do up your process, but make divination really meaningful. Divine on spirits, divine on big life changes, divine on the health of friends and family, divine on your own health. If you really feel like divining on a yes or no, simple question, flip a coin. “should I get coffee this morning?” flip a coin. “Do I get a taco or a burrito for lunch today?” flip a coin. “Is my friend mad at me?” Don’t flip a coin, talk to your friend.
