Pairing: none, reader is Cain's daughter
"Whoa, whoa, whoa! Slow down."
Your father's voice was commanding, even when he didn't try to make it so. You rounded on your heel, keys in hand, and went to stand in front of him.
"Where are you heading?"
"Dad, I told you this morning. It's just a party with a few of my friends at Ali's house. I'll be back by curfew. I promise."
He stared at you for a long moment, clearly weighing letting you go or not. "Fine. But is he going to be there?"
You shrugged. "I don't know," you said carelessly. "Does it matter?"
He was on his feet instantly. "Of course it matters. I told you before, something is off with him. And I don't like the way he speaks to you. Listen to me carefully: the only reason that friend of yours is still breathing is my mercy and my mercy alone. Perhaps you should make him aware before my patience runs out. If one more story about his disrespect reaches my ears, I will snuff him out."
You ducked his gaze and turned partially away. "You're doing it again," you said in an undertone.
"Doing what?"
"The whole Overprotective Dad thing..."
"If you had seen the things I've seen, daughter, you wouldn't call it that. Protective, yes. But not overly-so."
You gulped and cocked an eyebrow at him. "Can I go?"
He sighed and looked at you for a long moment before kissing your forehead. He softened at once. "Yes. You may. Be safe..."
"Always," you said. "I'll be back by 11. I promise."
Letting you go out the front door, leave the bubble of safety, was always the hardest thing he did.
Prompt: "Listen to me carefully: the only reason that friend of yours is still breathing is my mercy and my mercy alone. Perhaps you should make him aware before my patience runs out." Happy Supporting Character Saturday!
