Protective Mutt
So, my mom has a dog that doesn’t like me much; he often bites my pants, barks when I come in the door, and he once peed in my slipper. Needless to say, I’m not a huge fan of him either, but my mom loves him so I put up with him and largely ignore him.
Tonight, she took him for his usual walk and they kept running into bigger dogs like German Shepherds and a Rottweiler. For reference, Paddy is part Chihuahua and, I think, part Jack Russel, so of course the little lunatic has to bark at these much bigger dogs. My mom picked him up and took him away from the bigger dogs who all wanted to play with him, but Paddy isn’t one for playing.
You are all probably wondering where I’m going with this, aren’t you? Well, once they were away from these bigger dogs, she let him down and they continued their walk when they came upon a woman and her two daughters. My mom has osteoporosis in both of her knees so she can’t move very fast or very long without being in pain, but she always does her best. This other woman, however, decided she wasn’t moving fast enough, and shoved her to the side; nice, right?
Well, Paddy, this annoying little mutt, loves my mom to pieces (largely because of how much she babies him) and didn’t like this. So, what does this little, eight-year-old, practically toothless mutt do in the face of this woman shoving my mom? He lets out a bark worthy of a German Shepherd and makes the woman jump in surprise at such a big bark coming from such a small dog.
Don’t underestimate an animal just because it’s small; if you hurt someone they love, they will attack and defend.
