“He was dutiful before he lost his way,” continued Thor. “As much as it fills me with pride, to know that he found his own place in the world, it grieves me that we will likely never stand side by side the way I imagined it; it never occurred to me he would not be my most trusted advisor once I was king.” Mobius felt as if someone had splashed him with cold water. Of course. He knew this had been the plan all along, but Loki was so natural a leader, had so swiftly become part of their little TVA team, making it a real thing, giving them all a sense of purpose and belonging by his sheer presence, it was unimaginable to think how Loki would have just… disappeared next to Asgard’s Golden son. But he had. For a millennium. “Do you think Loki would have been satisfied with that?” he asked. “Perhaps not,” said Thor, “perhaps his downfall was inevitable, with or without the untimely reveal of his heritage.” The fury Mobius felt in that moment could have ignited the star from which Mjölnir was crafted.
