The No Secret Police Act (Senate Bill 627), introduced by California state Sens. Scott Wiener and Jesse Arreguín, would ban all police, including ICE and federal agents operating in the state, from covering their faces during operations and require that all law enforcement be clearly identifiable by name, agency, and badge number.
When federal agents wear masks and refuse to identify themselves, it creates the conditions for abuse, violence, and unconstitutional acts, and it erodes the trust communities have in law enforcement at every level.
We need every state to pass its own No Secret Police Act to stop these rogue ICE operations cold, to protect immigrant families, and to make it crystal clear that law enforcement must follow the law, not operate in the shadows.
