Rabeeha Abdurehim, a gold medallist in M.A. Mass Communication from the Pondicherry University, was denied permission to attend the convocation ceremony with President Ram Nath Kovind as Chief Guest over ‘the doubt and fear of protest against CAA’.To register her protest against this discriminatory move and also for showing solidarity with protests against Citizenship Amendment Act and National Register of Citizens, Rabeeha refused to accept the gold medal given by varsity.A student of the Pondicherry University, who is also a gold medal winner, was denied permission to attend the convocation ceremony with the President as Chief Guest after she refused to remove her Hijab.The student claimed that she was stopped by security forces as she refused to remove her hijab.She also said that she was sitting in the auditorium with other students when she was asked to step outside.After which she was allegedly asked her to remove her hijab during the event. After she refused, she was asked her to remain seated outside the auditorium.After the President left, the department staff distributed the rest of the certificates. The student then denied accepting the gold medal as she felt she was publicly humiliated. She accepted only the certificate.
