Square was beginning to falter.

Beads of sweat ran down his brow, lacerations stinging all over his body.

Ahead of him, the soldiers were beginning to peek out of their trenches, the lenses of their gas masks reflecting his battered face. Why weren't they advancing?

As Square stared them down, he began to feel something was wrong. Despite not touching the ground, he could feel it beginning to tremble.

Something was beginning to rise from the from the trench. Something grey, and metal. Square watched, suddenly feeling very cold, as a mass of grey squeaked and groaned it's way over the hill towards him. Eyes peered into his through slits in the steel.

The soldiers were now beginning to emerge from their dugouts, bayonets fixed to their rifles.

Squared raised his chipped sword, steeling himself for what was coming.

The main gun creaked into motion, moving to aim for the head...
