The main reason why human beings saw so many UFOs in the desert was because many human beings didn’t recognize the night sky any more. That, or a combination of too much alcohol or heat exhaustion. Pinky didn’t have issues with either of these things, and she was pretty familiar with the night sky over many parts of Earth. When she saw something, then, she made a specific trip out the the desert.
Going out into the desert made her nostalgic. Barren rock and night sky as far as the eye could see. She had gone to meet a landed ship, since flat desert was the easiest to land on.
While it might have been an better idea to avoid it, she figured whatever it was would eventually find her while she was with her band mates. That was actually the worst scenario.
