The road to my L663 New Defender feature: say hello to the LCV2, LCV⅔ & DC100. The trick is finding an LCV1 - does it still exist? The Centre Steer replica, captured by @nickdimbleby was built by Bill ‘The Paintman’ Hayfield in 2006/7, using an original wartime Jeep chassis and handmade aluminium panels fashioned by eye using original photos as a reference. . The 'Road Rover' or an Sudan/Saloon variant of the Range Rover is a quirky notion. The idea of a 2x4 Land Rover is one thing but JLR actively producing a traditional car is another... Why do the world's most exotic, prestigious and traditional automotive manufacturers produce SUV's? Because of the success of the Range Rover. Even the J in JLR has to make SUV's today due to the Range Rover (and its family members) poaching sales of their XJ, XF and EX models. What is more likely to work is a Range Rover-esque machine, perhaps something like a an Evoque or Velar in EV form without changing the name. In short, don't make a Land Rover called the "Road Rover". People like the idea of the outdoors and riding high, the name "Road" smacks as confinement, not refinement or freedom, and a Land Rover in car form may come across as an attempt to resurrect the Rover name - will the world accept another SD1 or P5 (let alone 800) when they've already chosen the Range Rover? Swipe to view the 1998 Farmer’s Friend, a 1.2ltr 3 cylinder, 5 speed Concept Vehicle "This amazing vehicle was a concept for a high-mobility off-road farmer’s runaround. Only one was built and a lot of testing was carried out at Gaydon. Work started in 1998 by rooting around local scrap yards where a Subaru Sumo was found. The suspension, engine, gearbox and controls were adapted to fit into a space frame with a pivot just behind the driver. It was pretty unique at the time, with springs on all four corners and the central articulation. At the time it was built, Gators and quad bikes were still fairly new on the scene and starting to become popular, so arguably Land Rover’s timing was right. However, it did not go into production. The development engineers had a bit of a soft spot for it, though, so it was squirreled away which is why it survives today" By @nickdimbleby for @dunsfoldcollection #landrover #protypelandrover #landroverphotoalbum https://www.instagram.com/p/CPkxZjkNcIN/?utm_medium=tumblr
