*long post, worth a read* Today is World Cancer Day. A day where some of the largest cancer charities unite to raise funds. You'll probably spot loads of fundraisers out and about selling unity bands this weekend, you can get one online here: http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/support-us/donate/world-cancer-day/unity-bands Many people are sceptical about giving to charity, or about giving to big charities or big appeals like this because 'does the money get to the people who actually need it'. My thoughts on that? Do it, give the £2 because one thing is for certain - if people don't give, those people who need it most certainly won't get it. You can't win the lottery if you don't buy the ticket can you? And actually in these big campaigns the money is often ringfenced and goes to a specific pre-destined 'topic' such as research. Or a small % your money may partially go to pay for fundraising materials or staff wages but it all keeps the big wheel turning. You CANNOT fundraise without money. It can't be done - even we here at SBM have to pay money to keep our fundraising going but it comes out our own personal pockets because it's on a small scale. But even now, we've nothing left in our wee fundraising stash so it slows down what we can do this year. We can't pay for our Facebook advertising anymore so only a handful will see our posts - giving to these big guys, maybe your money will pay for a Facebook post but maybe someone will see that post and donate £10k. Who knows. I will never not give to charity because I don't think it gets used wisely. If the charity is genuine - it gets used wisely. You can text SBMF70 £5 to 70070 to donate to brain cancer research. 100% always goes to research when you donate through Small but Mighty. But you probably won't see this post because we can't pay for it lol!!! #worldcancerday2017 #braintumour #proudfundraiser #fundraising #braincancer #thebraintumourcharity #smallbutmighty #wefightbraintumourswhatsyoursuperpower
