Grades or Values?

True, grades won’t measure your worth. Technically, they’re just numbers that are part of grading systems and standards. When you get a high score, these numbers will make you feel euphoria. When you get a low one, these will let you feel the excruciating disappointment and defeat. EVEN tests won’t measure your capability as a person (well, except for how good your memory is). 

Funny, people think I was acting as a prissy kid who always recites just for damn grades and does the role of the student properly. Screw people who thinks that I just think of grades everyday in the morning until I close my eyes. People also want to drag me down to hell just to erase me from hindering their chances of being in the top. They also mock me for my appearance and try to personalize me in a way of bullying. Man, I’m just doing my role here for me to prove that I’m doing well.

It’s crap that grades (and tests) were part of school, but these determine who will be part of the honors and qualified for scholarships. But some questions started to fleet in my mind since I was in Grade 10: aren’t we supposed to learn the value of time management, perseverance, and respect? aren’t we supposed to gear up for the real deal: survival? aren’t we supposed to NOT compete with each other but with self? 

This “grade conscious” thing and the “teacher’s pet” never crossed my memory. Though, having a good grade and being trusted by teachers give me composure, I never wanted “numbers” and nerve-wracking tests to measure my individuality. I want people to see me as “Me”. 

Sheesh, this was too deep. But point is, people form this generation up to the next should learn to not box themselves from the school’s grading system. Enjoy the perks of being a student and utilize what you learned. Everything that you learn (yeah, everything, even if you say the least will not help you) will be useful in the future. Learn to value your “values” more than your scores.
