Kendrick Lamar (via mwin8)
This line in Kendrick’s song sadly speaks for our generation. The amount of police brutality is insane. The pattern of racial violence by police has gotten out of control. It is extremely sad that our music industry is even singing about the maltreatment.
“This is the new America
We are the new America”
Rihanna
I love this quote because it is true. Our generation has the chance to start over and build a new America. We have the chance to end racism and raise our children in a society with better morals and more equality.
More importantly, [this campaign] also speaks to an acute awareness among young African Americans of how black bodies are particularly vulnerable to misrepresentation by mainstream media.
Bonilla and Rosa (via ctimbs5)
I think this quote is very important. It is the most accurate representation of today’s society I have seen. Young African American’s are extremely vulnerable and can be subjected to so much more violence due to the color of their skin. Social media does not help their reputation.
Whereas in most mainstream media contexts the experiences of racialized populations are over-determined, stereotyped, or tokenized, social media platforms such as Twitter offer sites for collectively constructing counter-narratives and reimagining group identities.
