Flowers for August: These neighborhood beauties, springtime, Northern California.
I don't actually know what they are! I want to say I've heard them called Japanese roses...? Please chime in if you recognize them, my plant-loving comrades! I know there are many of you, including @greycatbird , @geopsych , @bluebelly-sun-serpentine , @theplanthropologist , and @summerwages , just to name a few of you lovelies off the top of my head. Thank you!
San Francisco for December: Outside the maritime museum. Spot the great blue heron!
In honor of FEBRUARY, here is some everyday delightfulness. A fine stick!
Portals for June. Gateway at the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens, Northern California.
Thank you, @puk128 , for what may be my first official Snapshot Ask! Apologies for the screenshot here, courtesy of my email. While industriously jettisoning spam earlier, I accidentally (and temporarily) blocked you. Onward to the (interesting) bugs and (forgotten) flowers!
First off, these oak gall wasp eggs on a Valley Oak leaf.
Second, an easily overlooked, but not actually easily forgotten, springtime flower. Here is a snapshot through a car window, where you can see that it's easy to miss.
And here's the beauty up close. Hartweg's iris, aka Rainbow iris or Sierra iris, endemic to California.
Thanks again! I'm smiling as I type.
