Commentary Post Maria- Puerto Rico by a friend. 🥀🇵🇷

Its been two weeks since Maria destroyed my island. Sleeping in different house and living out of a bag has kind of become our norm. Getting dressed in the dark is my new art form and putting on make up the dark my new talent. I look forward to cold showers because its the only cold thing I might get in a day.

And then there’s the few times when I have cell access...I am then able to read about rising death tolls, and how things are getting better because someone was lucky enough to only do a 30 hour gas line. Go to this or that supermarket they say...but when I go the line is a block and a half long and my kid has fallen asleep in the car because of the excruciating heat.

This devastation has given me a new perspective in life...it truly is all about the simple things, life is all about moments of happiness like my child's funny commentary or looking up at the stars. And it is these moments that give you the energy to struggle through the rest of the day in our search and attempt to live a normal life in our new reality.

I do miss my old life. I want my power and water back, I really do.
