📖 Psalm 3 – A Prayer From the Deepest Pain
David wrote this psalm while fleeing – from his own son Absalom, whose name, with bitter irony, means "Father of Peace." Yet this very son brought his father war, betrayal, and heartbreak.
"Arise, O Lord!" – a battle cry from a broken heart. David is not waking God up. He knows better: "He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep." (Psalm 121:4)
But David prays not from theology – he prays from raw experience. In this moment, God feels absent. Silent. Far away. And instead of pretending otherwise, David brings that feeling straight to God – honestly, boldly, without religious polish.
This is the language of the Psalms: You are allowed to cry out. You are allowed to say – "Lord, why are you not moving?" God does not demand perfect words. He invites a sincere heart.
And God answered. From Mount Zion – His holy hill in Jerusalem, the earthly throne of His presence – He answered. Not with silence, but with salvation.
"I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and He heard me out of His holy hill." (Psalm 3:4)
Zion was not merely a place. It was the declaration that God is exalted, sovereign, and holy – and yet He bends down to hear one broken man fleeing through the wilderness.
And here is the breathtaking good news for us today: We no longer need to climb that mountain. Through Jesus Christ, the veil has been torn. We have direct access to the very presence of God – "Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith…" (Hebrews 10:22)
The same God who heard David on the run, hears you – right where you are. No pilgrimage required. No mountain to climb. Just a sincere heart.
The mysterious word Selah invites us: Stop. Breathe. Let that sink in. He calls God to battle. And he trusts God to win.
"But You, O Lord, are a shield around me – my glory, and the One who lifts my head." (Psalm 3:3)
The High and Holy God hears even the smallest voice. 🙏⚔️
Lord, many are saying of my soul, “There is no deliverance for him in God.” But You, O LORD, are a shield about me, My glory, and the One who lifts my head. I am crying to You, the LORD, with my voice. You have answered me from Your holy mountain. Selah. #Psalm3:3-4 https://www.instagram.com/p/CG47Jj4Aem8/?igshid=idh7dwlbnvs1
