Their marriage was anything but normal. The atmosphere around the base was uneasy. Rose felt the sharp edges of eggshells under the soft skin of her feet as she moved day by day. The only solace she found was laced in the unfamiliar walls that were now her home. Daily Rose would speak with her parents and tell them stories of the day while her husband was working. Each day, Elenaor would reassure her daughter that things would be alright, that they would work out in the end. Varick would come to her quarters and the two would share a meal and conversation before parting ways for the evening. The routine continued until—
The day started as usual. Rose could hear Varick’s footsteps walking down the hallway with eagerness. His heels driven down into the metal sheets echoed as he made his way. Today seemed different. His walk seemed different. Rose dismissed the thought as she took a seat down on the black leather couch. Nausea settled in her stomach and her brows furrowed. Something felt off but she was unsure of what.
Rose grabbed her holophone and dialed her mother. If anyone knew how to calm her unusual anxiety, it would be her. When she heard her mother’s voice, she could feel her shoulders relaxing.
“Mom,” Rose smiled sheepishly. “No, we haven’t. I think things are getting better, though. He brushed his hand against mine when we were eating and I swear I thought he was going to turn into flame.”
The conversation was delicate and light. The uneasy feeling continued to bore into the pit of her stomach as she continued to talk to her Mother. Rose was beginning to feel overwhelmed. She tugged the blanket on her lap and leaned her head back.
“I know I was upset before, but I’m sorry, Mom.”
“It’s alright, darling. I knew you would be. Everything happens for a reason, just trust us.”
“I love you.”
“And I love you, my dear.”
Her lungs filled with filtered air as she took a deep breath. The anger she felt that day had been eating her alive. Maybe that’s what the anxiety was.
Her head lifted as the voice began echoing down the hallways. Her head turned towards the flat screen in front of her as she could the sea of the Imperial Army soldiers standing in formation. Rose’s head tilted as she watched the familiar silhouette of her husband adorned in black walk into the center. The entire attention of the base was focused on the redhead.
“What’s going on?”
“I—I don’t know. I’ve never seen this happen.”
Her fingertips pressed the button and the volume on the screen turned up just enough. Varick began to speak and it was like he was a different man. The tone that he addressed the Nation with was thickly coated with anger and pride. The more words that spilled from his lips, the more Rose could feel herself becoming frozen.
“M—Mom.”
Rose stuttered as the earth beneath her began to shake. Rose listened to the toxic words that dripped from his tongue and her heart shattered.
“No!”
The crowd began to cheer as loudly as the vibrant red light filled the atmosphere.
“Mom!”
The line became silent. The only thing Rose could hear was the sound of applause from the Imperial Soldiers and her own heart breaking.
“No!” Water flooded the lower lids as she screamed at the top of her lungs into the empty air around her. Rose just witnessed the destruction of her home, her parents—everything she knew and loved. Rose just witnessed the murder of her parents by the man they chose for her.

“I think we should go somewhere for just us. To relax.” Rey announced one day. The three of them hadn’t stopped for the years since they’d met, clear in their objective to take down the First Order. “I want to go somewhere with a sunny beach.”
