DDR journal: passing the hard stuff
I’ve got the habit of always playing charts I can do reasonably well, which makes for a more relaxing session and lets me enjoy the stepcharts more but doesn’t challenge me as much as I’d like to challenge myself.
Curiously, though, the work I’ve done on the easy stuff has made me much better at the hard stuff.
Today, I set my sights on the hardest singles chart in DDR Extreme: PARANOiA Survivor MAX on the Oni/Challenge difficulty. It’s a relentless chart that twists you back and forth with crossover steps. Looked at a few videos of other people beating it, found the tricky spots in the stepchart that I knew I’d need to watch out for. I geared myself to wrestle with this chart for awhile today.
Nah, I just passed it on my first try (in fact, my first try since probably 2007 or so).
Moreoever, I was never at risk of failing either, though I hesitate to say I passed it “easily” because my body was totally done afterwards. I had two songs left, so I chose really easy songs to celebrate with and still bombed them entirely. Anyway, that’s a bit immaterial after finally beating the hardest (singles) chart in the game!! Super chuffed :)
