James Douglas “Jim” Morrison (December 8, 1943 – July 3, 1971) was a singer, songwriter, and poet best known as the lead vocalist of the rock band The Doors. He is also known for his poetic lyrics, distinctive voice, wild personality, and captivating performances. Morrison co-founded the band in 1965. The band didn’t get any notice until the release of their single “ Light My Fire” from their self-titled debut album. Morrison would often improvise spoken word poetry during live performances. Morrison is one of the most iconic and influential lead vocalists. Bandmate and co-founder Ray Manzarek said Morrison “ embodied hippie counterculture.”Morrison is #47 on Rolling Stone magazine’s “50 Greatest Singers of All Time”. In 1993, Jim Morrison was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Doors. During the 1960s, Morrison developed an alcohol dependency, affecting his performances on stage. He died unexpectedly in Paris at the age of 27. Morrison is another artist who passed away at a young age and, as an artist, had a profound influence on music and pop culture.
