Working with a deity for the first time and general brain dump

I had been working really hard on self improvement (which I have fallen off of but that's for later) and was noticing in my practice that I felt like someone was reaching out to me. This was like three months ago btw. So I was doing some general research until I got a very specific sign. A specific sign from the Roman Pantheon (which I was the most comfortable working with because I am Italian-American and I know when my family moved to America). I felt both very intensely about this being the correct deity I was feeling but because she is a minor goddess I was a bit insecure. Now I am not, I am very happy to work with her and I feel so much more confident with her influencing my work.

Have I neglected her recently because of company, job hunting, and midterms? Yes. Did the offerings I gave her today help? Partially, she seemed to think they were okay and were a good start to make it up to her since I have been neglectful. Yeah, I know. I think the wine and flowers were good I think I'm going to get her a new set of amethysts for her.

What's frustrating is despite doing weeks of research about signs from deities and then researched Psyche to make sure I wasn't misinterpreting anything is that I feel like I can not talk to anyone about working with her. Yes, I know she is not very well known but there are at least a hundred Roman deities. Not everyone can work with Bacchus or Minerva. And working with them is great, don't get me wrong. But like a lot of online witchy spaces only really want to talk about major deities and I think that's pretty unrealistic. Especially because a lot of these spaces can be pretty uninformed at times. Maybe I'm just being sensitive because not many other people want to hear about Psyche and how much I like working with her and how excited she is for me about some of the introspection I've been doing and the life changes I am making for the better.

Okay rant done, it's making the vibes turn sour and I've already burned a bunch of incense.

On a positive end note, after finishing a spell with her observation and placing it in my pillow case (It's not a jar don't worry I can go inot details if anyone wants) my cat immediately went on it. Feels like this is a good one but now I am sleepy from using up a lot of energy. Does that happen to anyone else after spell work? Not as bad as when I used blue moon water (I was exhausted for like a week), but still pretty sleepy. Alright thanks guys.

BLOG #7

This the 7th and final blog for our subject. we had good run but since our session was short we have to stop here. For our final discussion, we have tackled about Focusing on the Psychological Health. Focusing on finding true happiness. The term happiness is used in the context of mental or emotional states, including pleasant emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy. there isn’t a definite meaning of happiness; we know it when we feel it. happiness is subject, but we must have further knowledge of what is happiness. There are two approaches of well-being: Hedonic well-being and Eudaimonic  well-being. Hedonic means increasing what you desire and lessen what you hate. And Eudaimonic happiness is achieved through experiences of meaning and purpose in life. Dr. Caroll Ryff claimed that there 6 faces of psychological well being and 7 factors that may effect it. That is all I have learned.

Overall, I learned that taking care of mental health is just as important maintaining physical health. People with mental health issues should be taken cared of and treated, otherwise it can destroy the way a person thinks and eventually leading them to a loss of sanity. It also has great impact to their physical body as well. It is an important lesson for us all to receive true happiness.

BLOG #6

The next lesson we discussed today is about Developing Efficient Learning, but to be specific, we have discussed about the human brain. This is like science all over again. The human brain is one of the most complex organs in the human body. The brain is responsible for many functions of the human body such as thought, memory, emotion, touch, motor skills, vision, breathing, temperature, hunger, and every process that regulates our body. We have discussed about the three parts of the human brain: Forebrain, Midbrain and Hindbrain. The forebrain controls body temperature, reproductive functions, eating, sleeping, and the display of emotions. The midbrain controls vision, hearing, motor control, sleep and wakefulness, alertness, and temperature regulation. And the hindbrain coordinates functions that are fundamental to survival, including respiratory rhythm, motor activity, sleep, and wakefulness. This is all I can understand during the entire class :P. All these functions are connected in our brain in any action, emotions, feelings, or any cognitive response. We should learn to take care of our brain since they are necessary for the body to function properly.

BLOG #5

On the discussion in our subject, we tackled about how stress plays an important part of adolescence. Stress is a non-specific response of the body to any demand. The body responds to these changes with physical, mental, and emotional reactions. We all have experienced stress in our lives and it is normal. Stress can be either positive or negative depending on the stressor and it can result either positive stress or negative stress. According to our teacher, there are three kinds of stress: Acute Stress, the most common form of stress. Episodic Stress or Persistent Acute Stress, happens when someone is feeling recurrent acute stress. Chronic Stress, the most dangerous form of stress which can kill you if left untreated.

While some of us have a distinct behavior or come from different backgrounds, we should practice avoiding stress. I know stress is inevitable; every day we are working to fulfill our needs but as people experiencing adolescence, we should take time to take care of ourselves. I recommend getting enough sleep, drink eight glasses of water a day, and avoid being on the internet for too long. Start taking long walks and daily exercise. You can also get help from those you trust, like your friends or family. We should apply these things to make our lives better and tranquil.

BLOG #4

Now for our next lesson, we have discussed about Dealing with Challenges in Adolescence stage. While we’re approaching adolescence, we experience some challenges in our lives. And these challenges either change us positively or negatively. In this stage, the development stage that has a major effect on us is the socioemotional development. Your relationships and the way you handle your feelings might deter as you grow. It may affect your way of thinking about yourself and how others think about you. Which is why maintaining mental health is a must during this stage. There are a lot issues that we might experience, these examples are: peer pressure, infatuation, mood swings, anxiety and depression, eating disorders and low self-esteem. These challenges are inevitable and we can experience some of these later in our lives. But these challenges also help us grow and teach us what to do and what not to do later as an adult.

BLOG #3

Now today’s lesson, we have discussed about entering the phase of adolescence. Adolescence is the period of transition from childhood to adulthood. Children undergo the process of puberty, having a new appearance of cognitive structures and introspective ability, the establishment of moral values and norms, and a coming to terms with the developmental tasks that are specific to this period of life. There are three stages of Adolescence: Early Adolescence, Middle Adolescence and Late Adolescence.  Each developmental stage is characterized by different milestones in the physical, cognitive and socioemotional domain. There are also four principles of development which are: Sequential, Individualized, Gradual, and Holistic which can be made into an acronym called “SIGH”. During adolescence, you may undergo a lot of changes with your physical appearance, intellectual capabilities, and even your social skills. 

As a person who is now in his late adolescence, I have experienced physical changes of my body such as growth spurt, deepening of voice, hair growth and much more. I have also experience Cognitive development and Socioemotional changes as well. My mind is not yet clear about the topic of adolescence but we are introduced some basic lessons about the said topic. All we know is that each one of us undergo these changes and it helps us to reflect ourselves as we are reaching young adulthood.

BLOG #2

On our next topic, it is all about being Mindful with the Self. Holism focuses on looking at life as a whole, is an approach to understanding the human mind and actions. You cannot understand yourself without learning the different components of your identity as a human. There are five fields of personal development: Physiological, Cognitive, Social and Emotional, Spiritual and Psychological Development. What I learned from each field is that each of these is necessary for the growth and development as a person. It continues to change during our life and without one of these components, we will not become a whole person.

BLOG #1

Our subject is all about Personal Development. Honestly, I expected this subject to be relatively short because there is nothing much to be discussed. However I am looking forward to this subject. Anyway, our first lesson was about getting to know one's self. Self-concept is a person’s perception of himself, how one defines and understands himself as something multi-dimensional; physical, spiritual, emotional, social, and a moral human being. Self-esteem is the value the individual puts on what he knows about himself. It can be a positive or negative self-evaluation of himself as a human being and to his role to society. 

In all honesty, this topic kind of 'sparked' something deep inside of me. I thought about how much I put little to no effort to my family, to the society or even myself. I didn't care much about my self-image but I knew what others think of me. Sometimes it is best to learn more about yourself and take time to apply these Steps to becoming self-aware, which are: Asking yourself why, delay gratification, take feedback constructively, let go of biases, use tools to know yourself and reflect.
