▪ Hugh had money on Theo being a boy before she was born. He was very wrong. He did not second guess when Olivia told him she was gay. He’d learned his lesson. 

▪ Both Hugh and Theo have a thing about hands. While Theo resists touch, Hugh is too tactile. He won’t wear gloves even when he should, and she of course, does the opposite. He once gave her a pair of his work gloves when they were trying to fix up Janet’s backyard shed for her because he wasn’t using them, and the impressions on them were too strong so she threw them away when he wasn’t looking. 

▪ When Theo got back to Shirley’s guest house, she picked up the mug Hugh was using and got an impression from it. It was like an apology, an admission that he had screwed up that he didn’t tell her about during their conversation because he knew it would be the wrong thing to say. And then she knew he was gone. She kept the mug.

▪ Theo knows what Steve saw because she touched him when they were at the hospital caring for Luke. She was angry about it.
